The list of IEEE Fellows in 2020 was officially announced, and a total of 282 new fellows were added. More than 70 Chinese were elected, of which 37 were elected from China. The elected Chinese Fellows came from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and other institutions. Professor Hou Zhongsheng of our school is among them.

The full name of IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), an international society of electronic technology and information science engineers, established on January 1, 1963. Headquartered in New York City, USA. IEEE has more than 420,000 members in more than 160 countries around the world, of which more than 50% are from outside the United States. IEEE Fellow is the highest-ranking member of the society, the highest honor granted by IEEE, and an authoritative honor and important professional achievement recognized by the academic and scientific circles. Every year, IEEE peer experts hold senior or life-level members. In the selection process, those who are elected need to make significant contributions to the progress or application of engineering science and technology, and bring significant value to society. The number of elected members does not exceed 1‰ of the total number of IEEE members that year. Since the number of IEEE Fellows elected every year is small, the selected scientists are basically outstanding scientists who have made important achievements in the fields of science and engineering technology.

Professor Hou Zhongsheng is the chief professor of our school, a fellow of the Chinese Society of Automation, and the founding director of the "Data Driven Control, Learning and Optimization" professional committee. From 2002 to 2003, he was a visiting scholar at Yale University in the United States.

Professor Hou independently and co-authored more than 120 peer-reviewed journal papers and 130 papers, published two academic monographs, and presided over the “major” international cooperation projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the “key” projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. There are 20 general projects of the National Science Foundation and other projects. Professor Hou's current research interests include data-driven control, model-free adaptive control, learning control and intelligent transportation systems.

Professor Hou has served as a committee member of more than 50 international and Chinese conferences, and has served as an associate editor and guest editor of several international and Chinese journals.
